This cant be real !! Explorer Nightmare

OK here is my problem.. which Impacts 3 of my computers all running XP..

I have many 700MBs video files on my computers (1.2TB in total across many drives). I often arrange and re-arrange those files and I get the following annoying problems
1- some files I can never delete
2- when I try to delete those troubled files explorer develops memory cancer !! it grows to a size of 100MB of memory and brings the system to its knees
3- even if I just open a folder than contains one of those bad files, explorer does not like that and starts growing like crazy .. I kill it from TaskMgr and the system goes back to normal behavior for a while till explorer decides to explode again and eats up the memory ..

Bottom line, I am suffering big time from explorer, I’ve re-installed windows XP a few times and I always end up with the same Explorer Nightmare !! any thoughts ??

No, i did have that way back, but re-installed after that.. well, but i do have oDC which is a peer-to-peer sharing and winMX on 2 of the computers.. the one that gives me most of the explorer problems is the 3rd one which does not have any p2p software on it..

some vid's on p2p are .exe's or .zip's and have spyware/virus's along with the movie, or it installs a "video player" with the movie, if you are downloading straight mpg, avi, etc i wouldnt be worried about the files though.

since they all have a .avi or .Mpeg ext to them, how can you tell when they carry an .exe component?

.Avi files cause problems to Explorer because of the previsualisation bug.
There a lot of Workaround. Try with the integrated Explorer window of your burning program.
or with this old winfile (file manager for 3.1, adapted to XP)

OK !! thought i'd report back as i finally found the cause of this XXX problem..

I have some Divx codec and a file by the name divxdec.ax was called everytime i opened an explorer window that contains media files coded with Divx4 (or other Divx releases), so i renamed this crapy file and the problem did not come back..

I uninstalled the Divx codec / reboot / re-install credible codec and living happily ever after
