setup problems with Biostar M7VIG Pro

Hi. I'm building my first computer in a microATX case and I've set up all the necessary components the way they should be (I think??). However, when I press the power button, the power LED lights up, the CDRW blinks, the HDD light blinks once or twice and I hear the HD spin. My monitor apparently doesn't receive any signal.

This is what the manual says:

Probable: System inoperative. Keyboard lights are on, power indicator lights are lit, hard drive is spinning.

Solution: Using even pressure on both ends of the DIM, press down firmly until the module snaps into place.

Does that mean my 2 sticks of RAM? I know it can't be the RAM because I'm using one right now. I'm thinking it can't be the HD because it spins. Don't think it's the motherboard? Could be the PS... 200W.

The manual for the M7VIG Pro is very inadequate. Any suggestions/solutions? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

EDIT: I've deducted that it's either the CPU or the PS. When I take out the CPU and turn it on, the PS fan stays on. When I put it back in, the PS turns on for a second and shuts off.

What the dilly?

if your running only a 200watt ps it will more than likely not be powerfull enough to run your system. But first things to check.

pull the board out and place it on a phone book or something else that won't allow the board to ground.. put the cpu hs and fan in and one stick of ram {that you know is good} in as well as your video card.{no on-board video right} double check your connections make sure the cards and ram are seated right. leave off the hdd and any other drives accept maybe a floppy as some boards require one to be connected. Hook-up the basic wires and what not and plug in the p/s and try it that way. Listen for beep codes and reprt back any of those.

make sure you clear the cmos and that the jumper is in the right position.

oph and BTW welcome to TechIMO both of you

Now when I put the MB in the case I used brass standoffs? Is that correct? How else do I secure it to the case?

test it outside the case first by going through the steps I've listed. One problem you might be encountering is something on the motherboard might be grounding while its in the case. If it boots just fine while outside the case then you can worry about putting it back in. But yes brass standoff are fine.

you have the cpu and hs/fan in place correct?? as well as a video card if you have no on-board video?? make sure the card is seated properly

if you have all this stuff on and it still isn't working try another stick of ram if you have it and make sure the ram is seated properly.

also make sure you have cleared the cmos and have set the jumpers back to the right position.

Could be a bad motherboard, but before we start jumping to conclusions.... Let's make sure that CMOS is getting cleared first.

1.Turn off computer, unplug from wall, turn off the power supply.
2.Press the power button a few times, make sure that the capacitors are drained.
3.Remove bios battery
4.Let it set 5-10 minutes
5.Clear cmos jumper
6.Let set 2-3 more minutes
7.replace battery, put cmos jumper back to default settings, plug back into wall, turn on power supply.
8.Double check make sure everything is hooked up, make sure the fuse box is set too, and it didnt flip, maybe try flicking the one to the room with the pc.
9.Press insert and HOLD IT
10.Boot the computer and keep holding\pressing insert key.

If you have another CPU to check the board with, try it. Otherwise, try those 10 steps and let us know if you get anywhere with it.

Kids different problem...same mobo

i have the m7vig pro (2 of them, one has been running my linux mandrake 9.1 since about november 2002. no problems. i even upgraded it a couple of times to include a new case and switching to ddr ram. but this new one i am setting up for development with a new amd athlon xp 2200+, i left it on for 4 hours while at work, cold apartment (i am hot blooded and it was froze up. when i cold booted it, the drives spin up, kb lights flash on then off, and it makes short silent beeps. i didnt count them, but it beeped about 4 to 5 times before i powered it off. i will try an athlon 1800+ from my windows box (it has an amptron mobo) and im gonna snag a 256 ddr chip for testing. but i noticed the amd heatsink was pretty warm, not oc, 32M non ddr dimm. 2 hdd, 2 cdr and 1 flop. i will count the beeps tonight and try chip swappin and see if the chip is burnt
peace yall.
