Kids gainward gf4 problem

im having problems with games just locking after a few mins of play i've tried all the drivers from the ones supplied 41.09 to the lastest 45. something and still having the same problem also on quake3 i cant even change the brightness in the settings it stays dark

my gfx card is a gainward ultra 650-8x xp

p4 1.7
2 512mb pc2100
160gig maxtor ata133 hdd
gigabyte 8INXP motherboard
using the onboard sound and lan driver
antec case with 2 rear fans and oneside and a 430w psu

so before i take this damn card outside and use it for target pratice is there anyone that could help me with this issue plz

Does the game lock, or the entire computer? Sounds like it could be a cooling issue.

Also, what OS are you running?

yeah the whole machine just locks

the card must need some cooling then there is 2 fans on the rear of the case and one on the side which is located near the gfx card

lol how much cooling does it need?

may i also point out on occasion it works fine and doesnt lock but id say %95 of the time it does

I hope the card itself has a fan on it? If not, that's your first problem.

If it does, it may not be seated properly, or something (that's really hard to do with a graphics card cooler though).

But ya, it sounds like a simple overheating problem to me. My Gainward would overheat occasionally, but usually only after a couple hours of NWN or Morrowind. They seem to use substandard coolers. Which is too bad because I really liked the card.

thanks for your help ill check to make sure the fan is still there :P

and make sure its working

btw can u change the cooler on these cards to something better?
