Refresh rates!!!
I have a p4 2.4 with 1Ghz DDR Ram,and a Leadtek Geforce FX 5900 - 128 MB 8x AGP with a 21 inch Trinitron Dell Monitor. Now at the moment my default refresh rate on the settings/monitor tab is: 60 Hz. Will this affect games i play and their performance? Should i change it to 70-75 or even 100? will that make a difference?

The higher the rate the easy it is on your eyes.

It may or may not affect performance. But you should change it anyways. Dear God how can you stand it? 60hz is HORRIBLE. Do you have poor eyesight? You should have it set to at least 75hz. 100hz would be even better.

No matter how smart OuT may be, in this area I consider him a little wrong. Running past 85hz is silly, and it only strains your monitor. But it's more than that. After a certain point (around 80-90hz), the human eye doesn't detect any difference, so running faster than 80-85 not only can be useless, but text gets fuzzier and less pronounced. I do think that 60hz is way to low, and recommend 75hz or 80hz if it's available.

75 is the minimum for a good refresh rate. As humans are all different in this aspect, some people maybe see flicker or not at 75. I'd recommend 85, its a good balance between the welfare of your eyes and the hardware.
Unless you are using LCD. Then the refresh rate does not matter, due to differing technology, the LCD does not use refresh the same way as CRT monitors. 60 on an LCD is standard and recommended.

Most monitors push less than 60hz when they're set to 60hz. Either way you're going to see some flicker ... I know with mine I'm stuck with it because that's the best it will show 1280x1024 at
If you say you can see flicker at 75hz though you're a liar. 75+hz is flicker free.

Your eyes can't see near that refresh rate.

My monitor is fine. I can see flicker at 75hz on any monitor.
Once again you are demostrating your abundance of ignorance Telexen.
Let us not forget just how ignorant you are: http://www.techimo.com/forum/showthr...threadid=72453 |

Yes I will have to agree with Out on this, I have known of people who HAVE to set refresh at 80+ or it won't work. I give that to mother nature, no 2 of us are totally alike.
An interesting story sorta kinda related to this. I have a few friends in the navy, pilots. Some time ago, they had this problem with their computers when we were fragging online, even when I set the refresh really high, they still see flicker.
Well I am not sure if this is true or not, but according to them (if they were not B.Sing me), most pilots can see in really high "framerates", in access of 100-150 FPS and so they have this problem.
