video recording

hey everyone. i just realized today that my car has been keyed. pretty bad too. full length on both sides . anyway, im convinced that its something personal and i have a pretty good idea of who did it. what ive been thinking is maybe i could set up a camera in case he comes back. ive been looking around at wireless cameras and recording devices. i was hoping someone could give me some advise on what to buy.

here's the situation. the car is about 50 ft from the window i would set this up in. i would like for it to be able to make license plates legible. what kind of resolution would i need for that? keep in mind i am not rich so i would like to keep this low budget without sacrificing quality. also i want to be able to record for 2-3 days but at the very least 24hrs. i want to know if i can record directly onto my harddrive or would i need a separate recorder?

you guys always come through for me so thanks in advance

I'm not sure what to suggest for a camera, but instead of a video you could just have it snap a photo at a given interval, say every 30 seconds. This will save you a lot of hard drive space. As for legibility you should be able to manage that on your screen with zoom and focus.

my advice to you is to use something like Gotchu .. it is a motion detection software that can be used with any camera.
