Systems Installing printer on Netgear FM114P port?

Just decided to install a printer to the printer port on the Netgear FM114P.

The Netgear supplied software goes so far as to bring up a "Print Port Setup" window which then "Browsing devices by TCP/IP" looking for "compatible devices". However, "no device is found".

I believe what is SUPPOSED to happen is a tree (similar to hardware manager) should appear with the FM114P and below it the printer. But nothing.

The network consists only of a single computer attached via ethernet cable and a portable which uses the wireless connection. The FM114 attaches to a cable modem. This has all been working fine for several months. OS is XP Pro. The printer works when installed directly on the computer. Printer is an old Cannon BJ-100

Thanks,

John Brown

Why not just connect the printer to your computer then use the MS established network to share it instead of using the router? I have 4 computers which can use the printer connected to my computer, no problems yet

This is a home system and we do not always leave everything running. I specifically wanted the router with printer port to share the printer even with no computer on. And, at this point, just want the blasted thing to work as advertised!

I did manage to get it running.

Went into the existing printer properties and changed the port. This is, maybe, what Netgear suggests in some of their faq and help. I'm not sure because I find Netgears help and faq to be very much written for folks who have a much better handle on TCP/IP stuff than I.

After the port assignment the printer started responding. Had to tinker with the 'Advanced' settings to get it form feeding after pages, and etc correctly.

Never could get the Netgear installation to work correctly.

Many print servers built into routers aren't any good. My router's print server can't route my HP all-in-one OfficeJet because it can't handle that much print signal bandwidth. Your case sounds different, being an older printer.... incompatible protocols, perhaps?

I may have been ambiguous in my last post. The printer in functioning now on the Netgear printer port.

Just could never get the Netgear supplied 'auto' install and setup of the printer to work. Had to manually change the port assignment of an existing printer as described above. And that procedure may or may not be something that Netgear advised in their help faq. The faq assumes way too much knowledge on the part of the user. I don't neccesarily understand what I did; just tinkered until the job was done.

Don't worry, you weren't ambiguous. We were just typing at the same time, and you beat me to posting (note our posting times).

So if you have it working now, then all's well that ends well!
