floppy=frustrating
Im building someone a computer and they want a floppy, and i have the cables set up correct, it is installed, it even shows in my computer. but whenever i put a floppy in, it says "please insert a floppy into drive :a"
The mobo is an EP-8RDA+
1gb PC2700 ram
120 gb Maxtor HD
Lite on Cdrw
Plexter 16x dvd
xp 2600 333 fsb
radeon 9100 128mb ddr
This is becoming frustrating, i uninstalled it, reinstalled it, same problem. is there something i have to phsically do on the floppy, or something in the motherboard?

Hey man I had the same problem when I was building a comp for somebody. I don't remeber what I did but just make sure u have power to the floppy drive and also the Floppy cable is inserted. I think that my problem was that I had no power to floppy drive. I don't know just check connections. Good luck

Try the floppy in another system. It sounds like a bad drive. There's very little that you can do for these since they have no drivers and they only have 2 plugs. Even someone with an avatar like yours can get the plugs right by trial and error, and you've said you already tried that so... |

There's at least four possible ways to connect a floppy cable between a floppy drive and the floppy controller slot... three of them are wrong. Look to see that the crossed-over section of the cable is closest to the floppy drive (I'm pretty sure about this... but I've been running rounded cables for so long I don't remember for sure... maybe someone else could confirm?)

You sound like u know what u r doing but also make sure that u r using the right end of floppy cable..right b4 twist. Just another suggestion...I think that I had to get a new floppy once for a problem like that. Just keep trying.

MitaDC | Please refer to the post immediately above yours... "...Look to see that the crossed-over section of the cable is closest to the floppy drive " I thought that's what I was saying

I ordered a floppy from newegg, it wont detect anything. i ordered another one, it wont detect. i put my old floppy back in, that one will not be detected. crossed over section is closest to the floppy. I dont see anything in my bios that owuld inhibt the floppy from working, but maybe someone knows something i dont? I changed the floppy cable, same result. mabye the floppy connector on the mobo is bad? maybe i have 3 bad floppies?

I would think that if your floppy connector on your MOBO was bad it would give a beep code.....did u say that floppy shows up on your bios?
