RedHat Vs Mandrake

Hey Mates,

I was wondering since im currently using Mandrake 9.1 and I have never tried RedHat, so is it something that I am missing? Which one is your option? Which one do you prefer? I currently like Mandrake but maybe RedHat is a better choice for me. Im not that noob in Linux now. Well, I just want to know if its worth trying it out.

Regards
Btw: Do I need all the Cds for REdHAt to install it or is it like Mandrake that you must have at least CD1? Since there are 3 CDs for RH. Thanks

Red Hat is a little less like windows. It doesn't do the right click of the mouse and it has a different feel to it. It uses RPMs like Mandrake (or does Mandrake use rpms like Red Hat ) and all the real nuts and bolts between the two apps are the same. The installation of Mandrake is a lot easier, although neither is THAT tough.

Simply, no. You are not missing anything big. These are the two most popular flavors of Linux and are very similar. IME, RH is used more in businesses and Mandrake is used more at home.

-guess that depends how you have things setup -RH does right-click in KDE AFAIRemember

I quad-boot the following on a single box:

*XP-Home (A legal licensed copy FYI)
*Redhat 9.0
*Mandrake 9.1
*SuSE 8.2

The Linux's are all about the same in ease of use and configurability. Each distro's front end GUI configuration tools differ considerably but basically acomplish the same things -editing those pesky "cryptic" config files and startup scripts.

RH 9 does not come with NTFS read support, but this is easily fixed.

All of the above Linux's become easy and more powerful with experience and knowledge. Keep using what you have and get a good book on Linux basics -and I highly recommend the online course over at www.linux.org -it starts off slow but is very thorough

You can also find a few good tutorials here www.linuxjunior.org
