Kids Windows explorer search default?

I found this site when the ntldr error, came up on my cpu so I figure you guys saved me there, so hopefully, you could help here .

Well heres the problem... I just installed a clean version of windows xp pro onto my hard drive (to get rid of all the gunk that all my previous os have left behind) . I was exstatic after I fixed everything up and it finally decided to work.

Then you guys know how it goes, I started up windows explorer trying to look for something, and double clicked on one of the folders to the right hoping to open it. Instead it opened the search this folder in a new window, without even expanding the folder I was looking at.... So heres my question, I need to stop this search folder from coming up every time I double click on any folder, It's driving me insane.

I've noticed that when I right click on a folder instead of having Explore bolded, My computer has Search bolded. So I've been looking through the preferances and everything trying to set it to explore folders, instead of trying to have it search the stupid folder but to no avail. Sorry It's just irksome.

So if any of you have had this problem, please tell... Is it the default setting for xp and I just don't know where to change it or what. I would try and reinstall xp but like I said, I ran into that ntldr file missing the first time I did that so I would like to steer clear of that if at all possible.

Thanks for any advice.

This has been bugging me for about a year. I had this problem at home (XP home) but not at work (XP Pro).

The cure is at www.dougknox.com - Win XP Fixes - Search/Command prompt Opens when double clicking a folder.

You can use the script file or as I did by editing the registry at:-

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Shell and changing the entry under data from find to none.

Wow, I was happy when I hit this thread as I've been having the same problem ever since I uninstalled the old WinAce. Unfortunately, things did not go as intended.

I downloaded and ran the .vbs, AND tried to the manual reg hack. Not only did it not fix the problem, but it somehow uninstalled a font I had recently installed and was using for my desktop.

I'd like to know if this works for anyone else so I can treat my computer to a good whack if it's just mine that won't work.

Changing it from find to none does nothing. Changing it from find to explore however seems to have restored normal operation.

Hope you got this worked out, dastuff.

The same fix in a different way....

In Windows Explorer, go to tools and then folder options...

Click the File Types tab and then look for extension "N/A" for "Folder". Click the advanced button, highlight "explore" and then click the set as defalt button.

Save, Close and then relaunch Windows Explorer.
