Did MS drop support for Win2k?

When I go to the Windows Update site, it tells me there are no updates for my computer. I KNOW this is false though because I don't have the patch to protect against that virus everybody has, I don't have DirectX 9 and I don't have .NET runtime libraries.

Is MS forcing me to upgrade or something?

They still support Win2k just fine. And I'm sure they will for some time.

I could be wrong, but it may be because they are getting slammed right now...wait a day or 2 and try again...I dont think they've even dropped support for 98 yet...?

They dropped Windows 98 a long time ago, at least a year ago. One of my friends has Win98 still and when he goes to the microsoft update site, it doesn't even scan. It has a message basically telling him to upgrade.

You can download the worm patch here.

You can still find plenty of support for 98 here.

Of course there's no more automated support for 98. Come on, it was released 5 years ago.

And it hasn't been a year since they stopped support. In fact, it was just a few weeks ago.

Quote:
In accordance with the Microsoft Product Support Lifecycle, no-charge support for Windows 98 will end on July 1, 2003. Paid-only support will continue to be available from Microsoft at $35 per incident. Support will also be available from some third party providers.

Microsoft will also continue to offer a variety of self-help resources on the Product Support Services Web site until at least January 16, 2006, two years after phone support for Windows 98 ends on January 16, 2004. These resources include the Microsoft Knowledge Base and Newsgroups.

Yeah, you can still even get all the windows updates for '95 from the MS download site. 2k will carry on for a while, another 2/3 years I'd hope.
