I got a problem... a serious problem

Well about 2 months ago my computer started having spasms
like when I was playing Civilization or Diablo, the WHOLE computer would have really bad lag then it would freeze, well I tryed to fix it by clearing everything on my computer, and it worked fine, but then it started again.someone said something about a memory leak, but I havent had a second opinion, I've been fiddling around with computers since 1992 but i've never had this kind of problem before. heck I don't even know the problem, because if I knew the problem I could fix it, Please help before I throw my computer out the window. and NO I DO NOT need to upgrade my computer, I GOT IT in late 2002. It's what every bone-head I asked said. please I don't want to pay $90 for a Certified Microsoft Tech to tell me I'm screwed.

How much specs? I can tell you now I'm running Windows XP, and its a computer by compaq

Sounds like a memory issue, or an overheating video card maybe. Who knows how well those Compaqs are cooled? It only does it when you game, right?
