help requested from svchost.exe masters

I am recently facing a serious problem with this program. After a while that computer is on an program-error-window pops up with a message similar to this
" svchost.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program.
An eror log is being dreated."

After this happens I do not see any big crashes however I encounter these disturbing problem

- you can't paste by write clicking the mouse or from edit menu either.
-if there is a link in an email and I want to go to that link website it dosenot open an explorer window.
-when you click on a folder the files or other folders are not shown.
-internet connection will not disconnect by right clicking on the icon in the corner of desk top status bar.

I thought maybe there is a conflicting program and since I nede a bigger hard drive anyway. I clean installed windows 2000 on new hard drive I was hopeful this will go away. I still get this message sometime after the windows is loaded. it looks that you are very knowledgable about this program, please let me know what should I do. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you might have that worm going around.

will need to update your AV's and Make sure you have a firewall on your computer to help prevent futher attacks.

and new installation. I also udpated my macaffe av for lates virus data.

when I want to listen to online radios by windows media player error message is low on memory while I have 358 meg of ram and no program using it.

Alos, make sure you update your windows service packs.. cause if you don't the virus will keep trying to infect you computer. I had the same problems, and i deleted the file, but the problems kept occuring until I finally installed service pack 4 for my win2k machine. post if you have any problems downloading the service pack.

I scanned it with mcaffe updated today .there isn't any virus showing. I also checked resgitery location addressed in the reply earlier there wasn't any msblast.exe file. another prblem I just found out is that even clicking on link in web pages dose not take me to new location, also in start >search> dose not bring search window.
I'm going to try to download service pack4

matt I can't install srvice pack4. After finding the updates when I click on istall now and accep the agrement nothing happens the that install botton is inactive.

Here's the direct link to the .exe file... http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...80-x86-ENU.exe but this is just the file that starts the install, it's still going to take a while to download the whole thing. (well, it did for me since I'm on a phone line connection.) Also, you may need to install service packs 1 and 2 if you already havent. I forget the links for them off hand, but you could probably just do a google search for them. Hope it works out.
