compaq presario crashed

I have a compaq presario 7000 series that has crashed. All that comes up is the compaq logo and then the screen is blank. I have tried to use the recovery disk and it states Failure to contact compaq tech support, I have tried to use the restore disk but it locks up at 70% and will not complete. Can someone please help me. I am not that advanced of a user but I am pretty literate when it comes to computers.
The problem started when I was trying to use the restore cd, because my cd rom drives would come and go as they pleased and I was trying to get my system back to factory installation.
Is there any simple solution to this?

new cd-rom...or the disk might be bad(not likely though) What are the specs for that system? Cd-roms are really cheap now newegg sells them for $20 with shipping... also how long did u let it sit at 70% because I had a compaq and it took forever to finish loading with the recovery cd let it go overnight.

This is a 7000z series, the motherboard went on it after the 1st year. I don't think the cdroms are shot, because they come and go. The system actually crashed becuz I was using the recovery disk and the cd roms disappeared in the middle of the recovery.
I installed a different cd rom and tried to finish the recovery but it always seemed to hang up on 70% area. I didn't try letting it go all night though. I have tried to do a system restore and boot from an emergency diskette I got from Compaq's website and the system is still black..
I will try to let it go all night and see what happens.
