winxp setup problems (again)

when i try to install winxp pro it gets to the file copying stage with the blue DOS-Like screen. every single time i try it there are about 30 files that will not copy. its the same files every time. i have tried two different cd's and i have tried two diff cd drives with each cd. does anyone know what the problem could be?

you dont have to answer, I am just throwing this out there...is it a legal version or a cracked version.

(hmm, maybe your handle is a clue? lol)

Anyway, I think I had a similar experience once but I dont remember the details...it would hang everytime on a certain file, I think it was usb keyboard support or something.

HI,
I am having the same problem. XP2400, 512MB RAm, 80G HDD. I have tried to install xp pro but keep on getting the file error. The funny thing is i was running xp before. I installed it from the same cd. I even tried installing 98 and then upgrading no luck.

Please Help!!!

WinDir is the windows installation folder. While you are in setup and while the error message is displayed on the screen, press shift+10 to start a command prompt. At the command prompt, type cd\windows\system32\, and then press enter. Type rename catroot2 catold, press enter and restart computer. Try again to finish the installation. Sometimes these files are not deleted during the removal of the earlier version of windows which can create a problem

@Steve

Does "dirty" mean the same as "copied"?

Setup problems

Mine turned out to be a bad RAM - changed stick- Windows went in with no problems.
