Basic LAN: XP Pro & Win2k

Hello,

If someone can provide a basic checklist for this process, I'd really appreciate it. I would like to help a friend setup a very basic LAN (just two computers for sharing files with full admin access and gaming). One box is running Win XP Pro, with Win2k Pro on the second. Connecting to the internet is not required for this little project. We've got the nic's, 2 rj45's and a hub (for possibly adding a third machine in the future). I understand that both machines need to be on the same workgroup, and that I'd have to manually add an IP addy to each box. Both machines automatically log in as an administrator, and we've got the passwords for both machines. Basically, I'm trying to avoid the problem of having a blank screen when browsing through Network Neighborhood. Is there a solid, fail-safe process to network these two machines? Would I need to disable WinXP's built-in firewall? Thanks for your time.

You should use the same password on both to avoid the logon window. Yes I would disable the firewall. You seem to have everything straight. Go give it a whirl.
