General WinXP Network Shutdown Problem

Hey all,
I've got a problem with Windows XP Corporate. Basically I have verizon dsl with a linksys dsl router with the latest firmware upgrade and essentially all the general presets except for the fact that this particular computer is the dmz host and some basic port forwarding. Basically when I leave the computer unattended for any amount of time (about an hour to twelve hours) the network will be completely unresponsive when I get back.
I've already patched the dcom rpc thing so I know it's not that. The only thing I can think it may be would be the fact that vmware has two network adapters set up. It's really bizarre though because I can simply disable/enable the main network adapter and everything works fine. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Graham

A few questions need to be answered first...

1. What network are you talking about? Your internal network or the Internet?
2. Do you have a static or dynamic IP from Verizon?
3. Is the Linksys router running DHCP? If so, how long is the IP lease time?
