At Home Inspiron 8500/Latitude D800 Keyboard Fix

Seems like Dell finally heeded the call of those complaining about flimsy keyboards on Inspiron 8500/Latitude D800 laptops. Dell came out with an official statement but seems to be trying to keep it on the down-low.

You can access the statemenet here: http://forums.us.dell.com/supportfor...ssage.id=17325

I called up Dell yesterday at around 2 in the afternoon to schedule an on-site service call and the tech just left about 5 mins ago. The keyboard feels much better now.

For some reason, they dont replace the keyboard but rather the whole palm rest assembly which means you'll lose any stickers and case badges you have on the palm rests. Didn't really matter for me, but I figured I give you guys the heads up.

Anyway, I feel Dell has come through once again and shown that they truly are a leader in the field when it comes to service and support. After all, the re-engineered their laptop case after customers disliked it.

Media I 8500 keyboard

That's excellent news. It sounds like the keyboard was the Achille's heel of that system. Mine is in production now and from your link (thanks!) it looks likely it will have the new keyboard.

Not fixed yet...

I orderd a Dell i8500 on 8/11, took 2 weeks to ship, and it does have the "bad" keyboard. I have an email in to Dell support to get a replacement part.

bad Inspiron keyboard

How much does it flex? I'm told the right corner near the delete key is the worst part.

Mine deflects maybe a couple mm, so I think I have a good one.
