WinXP: NTLDR file missing on bootup

Hello, I am new to this forum. I was recommended here from my friends because they have recieved great help here so I hope I can too.

Anyways here is my problem...
I have recently repaired my Windows XP because I kept getting this horrifying blue screen which I got rid of finally, after repairing but one problem still exists which displays "NTLDR file missing, press ctrl+alt+del to restart" and would not bootup unless I have the WinXP CD in the cd-rom drive to search for booting files (It would show the "Press any key to boot from CD" instead of the "NTLDR file missing" and would go to loading Windows) which is why I'm able to type here right now. It would be a pain having to put in the WinXP CD everytime to use the computer so any suggestions? And before you say anything I did search some sites and I did not have Windows 95, 98, Me or any old version installed prior to repairing WinXP. I also tried the copying NTDETECT.com and NTLDR file to C: but still with no luck.

BTW, this is how my boot.ini looks like:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

Anything wrong with it?

That sucks, do you know how you got that error? For me, I think this happened because I executed a file that some kid made with Visual Basic that did something to that NTLDR file or something else. I opened the file with hex editor and it had written things that said like System Error, etc and plus since that was the last thing I did before I rebooted so that must of been it... I tried copying the NTLDR file and NTDETECT.com file from the WinXP CD to my C: drive using Explorer since I'm able to get in my computer if I bootup having the WinXP CD inside the drive, but that didn't work. Do I have to copy it using Recovery console?

I have had no luck fixing this problem either... I'm at a total loss...

I tried
fixboot
and
fixmbr,

but as of yet, I can't tell what's going on... something is wrong with the boot sector I believe....

ideas?

No, unless the VB file I executed screwed with some settings. I dunno...

What other methods are there to try to fix this NTLDR?

I have Windows XP Professional (No longer have SP1 because I repaired my windows)

My harddrive is in NTFS. I did not have any previous Windows version installed. I had to repair my WinXP because I had a fatal system error which was fixed after Windows Repair but this NTLDR problem still exists unfortunately...

Namie...

here's the fix as far as I can tell...

boot with the win2k or (xp) CD and choose to install (not repair) the OS

then when it detects the old OS still present it once again gives you the option to repair it.... this time.... repair it..

it will essentially reinstall, but as far as I can tell thus far, all of my old settings are still there...

finally... go to symantec and use the fixBlast.exe file and the fixwinsh.exe (stealtherB worm)... finally, update all of your virus protection stuff... system scan.
finally after all that...

update windows again.

good luck and let me know how it goes.
