ugh.... how do I NOT use windows media player 9?

I like the way 6.4 is set up... simple, clean, easy.... however, I just updated windows, and now when I open an movie file (.avi, .mpeg) from a link, it opens in media player 9.... how can I change it back to win 6.4?

Start > Run > mplayer2

View > Options > Formats

Select what you want it to open.

You can also have wmp9 look just like 6.4, but still have the features of 9.
