Advice requested

Remember people, that I suck as web design. Anyhow, can you look at this, and tell me if it does it to you?

The forum I am making, say when you click on a forum category from the main page...while its loading the new page, it seems to take me about a half second before I see the css attributes that have been applied to my page show up. Sometimes its long, like a second and a half...which is annoying, because it looks crappy. I'm afraid it would be even longer on a dial up modem.

Can you let me know if it does this to you. And has anyone experienced anything like this before?

just click on a forum category

First off, I think the forum looks great

I know nothing about making forums yet, I just know HTML and Flash. So I congratulate you on your success!

I did view the forum and most of the posts and found that it loaded really fast. I have DSL connection. But for one post or topic I did experience that where the settings/colours don't kick in for another 0.3 seconds. That's all I experienced, other than that, it was fine

Good job,
FireWolf

Sometimes when you use external style sheets you hit some net congestion. It typically loads both so fast that the style is applied while the page is rendered. Sometimes the server isn't fast enough, or the connection isn't fast enough and the browser will start rendering the page before it actually gets the stylesheet loaded into memory. At least that's how I put it together. My blog does it all the time.

Yours does seem to do it pretty consistantly. Is the stylesheet abnormally large? I mean, it's a split second before the style attributes are applied, but it is noticable. That's odd. Got any heavy embedded scripts in the pages that could need processing before it can get the stylesheet cached? Just grasping at limbs here...

I don't know if you check browser compatibility.......but with Linux (Mozilla Browser) The comments don't show up. The only thing you see is black........ if you "highlght" the comment area.....you can see the comments, but only if you highlight the comment section, otherwise all I see is black.

Not sure if that is of any concern or not........ just thought I'd point it out.

Whir:

The style sheet is really small. Its actually just a style within the page, not even an external sheet. It seems weird. Maybe I will try rendering the style tags on the fly too and see how it goes.

firewolf:

Thanks. Its not too hard to do, but lengthy, and a good exercise for programming logic.

I've checked it in Opera. Its cool. What are you are is actually becuase its about 35% completed. When you look at the comments, you are looking at my old comments page. The old page was white, and so far, the only change I've made to it is to make it black, so it shows up messed up in any browser.

Thanks for the comments all.

Edit:
crouse:
I've just seen a glitch in Opera. On the SQL Server forum, I have 2 moderators listed.

Does it do that to you as well?
