I am helping a dude out with his comp...it's an old dell..has a built in NIC which he never needed...but now he gave it to his daughter who is getting cable internet.
So I look in his device manager but I dont see the NIC. But I look in Networking and I do, lol.
So I go to a DOS window and ping 127.0.0.1 and it works fine.
Anyway I am worried that somehow the NIC wont work since its not in device manager.
Anyway, so I go to check if its on in BIOS and he has the EZ BIOS crap on there...I guess from when he had a 10G drive put in way back when.
The only thing I know about ez Bios is that it tricks your comp into using a bigger hard drive.
So how do I get into his regular BIOS to make sure his NIC is turned on??
Do I need a special floppy with some sort of "EZ BIOS extension"??
All I saw when looking at it was to hold the ctrl key down to boot from floppy or hit enter (or something) to boot from c:.
So how do I get to his regular BIOS?
Thanks, JP

Use the boot disk that came with the drive unless the peep threw it away. You can download it from the manufacturer's website. When you boot from it, it gives an option to remove the crap under advanced options.
Or try booting from a dos disk and do a fdisk /mbr.
And tell the peep to keep all installation disks safe.
