BSOD Faults plus others

Hi,

I have recently come home from a trip away and found that my main PC is behaving rather oddly.

My wife says she gets BSOD'S every time she trys to shut it off and resorts to pulling the plug. She also complains that it also does Scandisk for ages and don't do much at all.

I have restarted the PC with the CTRL Key down and got into Safe Mode, done Scandisk then restarted normally, run Norton System Works- Win Doctor No Probs.

Upon shutdown immetiately following this I got a BSOD that gave the following:

An Exception 06 has occurred at 0028:0000000 in VXD This was called from 0028:C002F285 in VXD

What should I do now?. I am tempted to swap the C drive out from the D Drive, Format what was the D Drive( this only backs up the C anyway) Install the OS on the D copy the stuff I need over than after 6 months or so just Format what was my C Drive and start again.

Do you guys think this is a bad(dangerousi.e lost data etc) idea or would any of you do this yourselves?

Any suggestions greatfully received

Cheers

Yes knowing the OS would help, but why not go the easy rout first & just format
the C drive & reinstall windows. Sounds more like a problem with windows then
with the actual HD.

Hi,

Sorry I forgot to include the fact that it is running Win ME.

The main reason I want to change the drives is that I have a lot of stuff on the c drive and I just want to drag what I actually use over once I have a clean install. Then after 6 months or so if I am no longer going to the ex C Drive looking for bits and pieces I can clean it all up.

Cheers
