Outdoors k7s5a pro usb not working

I have a k7s5a pro MB with an AMD 2400 & 256 DDR ram. I originally installed XP & the USB ports appear to show up correctly in the system settings. I also installed the VIA 2.0 USB drivers that came with the MB. The USB ports ARE enabled in the BIOS. But when you plug in a device into a USB port, it states that it is an "unknown device".
I then installed Windows2000 with the exact same issue. I installed the latest sp4 as well. I have not updated the BIOS. Maybe that'll be the fix?

Any help will be appreciated.

Tony

It sounds like you have a card in the first pci slot and its a no no on these boards. The slot shares the resources with the on-board usb ports and cause it to not work properly. Just move the card down one slot and it will be just fine

To clerify, these are the USB ports on the backplate of the MB. This is not a 3rd party pci board

Again this is not an IRQ issue. It's that PCI slot 1 and the VIA USB controller use the same physical connection, PCI-wise. Multiple PCI device instances on one IRQ works fine.
