Firewall Protection?

I just bought a new 2.8 GHz Pentium IV computer with 1.0 GB of RAM and a Ti4800se Video Card. I have an 80 gig harddrive with the contents of my old computer's harddrive in a folder (file transfer). I'd like to keep all this safe... so it leads me to my questions:

1. What Firewall Protection program should I use? Trial or no trial, what is the BEST and/or the most useful program you guys have found to work.

2. What else should I use to protect my computer? I have Norton SystemWorks 2003 Professional Edition. Is that good enough?

I'm running WinXP Home if that makes a difference in program choice.

Thanks!
Chris

I think I may have posted this in the wrong category, sorry. But please answer if you have any suggestions.

You will find the vast majority of Windows users here at TIMO use either Sygate Personal Firewall or Zonelabs ZoneAlarm. Each are perfectly capable firewalling solutions, and the freeware versions generally provide enough configuration options for all but the most complicated home user configurations.

I professionally reviewed both a couple of years ago for another tech site. In my opinion, SPF is a superior option for more advanced users, while ZA is the better choice for those with entry-level networking knowledge.

Hope this helps,
Robert Richmond

Moving to correct forum..... done.

Hey thanks a lot!

I downloaded Sygate Personal Firewall Pro 5.1 and it's great! I find it way better than ZoneAlarm. I had ZoneAlarm and ZA Pro for a while, but I knew there had to be something that I liked more, and I have found it! (Well, sorta, LoL. You were kind enough to suggest it to me.)

Thanks again,
Chris

P.S. Thanks for moving this to the proper forum
