SuSE is Forgotten!
Hey Mates,
Nobody talks abou SuSE? Thats strange since its one of the best Linux distros I have used! Its amazing and I prefer it more than Mandrake. But one thing that this can be because:
-Its not free! This is very bad, they only have the live-vealuation version! And the fdp install is too complicated, easier with iso files! I mean who wouldnt like this guy? :
Regards

Actually, it has been discussed slightly here...mostly in distro recommendation threads along with the dreaded Mandrake.

I use SuSE -using 8.1 on this box and have 8.2 on several other boxes as well as on my laptop. I've purchased the $70 deluxe boxed set of SuSE since version 7.0 ...thus far some $400+ on SuSE alone -could be the fact that they don't offer free downloadable ISOs (yes I know about the FTP install) or perhaps that sometimes their particular organization of Linux puts some libs in places where they are difficult to find at compile time, or the fact that it is difficult to find precompiled binaries for SuSE -e.g. like rpms over at rpmfind.net
SuSE 8.2 -best manuals and best "out-of-box" hardware support of any Linux distro ..IMO of course

I agree CMonster, its sad that they dont have downloadable ISO's but again its one of the best Linux distros I have used. The Interface is outstanding. The FTP install is IMO very complicated. Mandrake is cool but SuSE the whole way I guess
Linux is becomming my favorite OS, and I am trying to avoid MS snice im currently not happy with their mentality (they have some issues, for sure) Oh, and I almost forgot, God Bless Linus Torvald!

I've used SuSE since 7.1 and have 2 boxes running 8.1:I have a few bucks tied up in it ,too.
Right now,I'm giving Mandrake 9.1 a run on my every-day comp.I began my Linux experience with MDK 7.1.
Maybe I'll go back when 8.3(or 9?) comes out.

I use SuSE 8.0, although I had to purchase it, It's less than the other (non-linux) option for a OS.

I have used SuSE a couple of times and I also like it as you Mate, but I really dont like the fact that is not free as the other distros like for example Mandrake that I currently use (Mandrake 9.1) I really like this distro but as I am a newbie in terms of Linux I rather use Mandrake that has been very great for me. Its true though that almost nobody talks about it here in this forum. Well, I would actually spend the bucks and buy it but currently my wallet is empty so no can do

Its a great distro, but SUSE itself deviates from the layout of most distros, and is a commercial product. You get a big thick manual with it, and they have a great support bit on their website. Personally I don't use SUSE because I'm happy(er) setting things up by hand rather than having it done for me, it means I know what's going on and can learn what to do, rather than just relying on some other program for it. On top of this, its an RPM based distro, which one day will need to be replaced with a better package format (IMO) or have some of the dependancy issues sorted. Its fine if you have all the RPMs from the right places though. But I vowed not to use RPM systems again, as I regret it every time.
