weird speaker problem

yes. im new here. but ive been coming here for a help for a long time, and i finally decided to register. hi everybody!

on to my problem. well. my system is an AMD Athlon 2400+ processor, Asus A7N8X Deluxe mobo, um, 80 GB hard drive, and some other stuff. im running winxp home.well. i just recently got a new sound card. mad dog predator 5.1 and i installed it with the drivers like they told me, and then i plugged in my speakers (Creative Inspire 5.1 5200. they worked perfectly. after that, i decided to move my computer onto a desk (it was on the floor). to do that, i turned off my computer, unplugged everything, moved it, plugged everything back in and then turned my computer on, and ever since then, my sound has been weird. only one speaker works (with the subwoofer), and the front left and rear left and front right and rear right speakers just snap crackle and pop. so i switched back to the onboard sound of my mobo, and it did the same, i checked if everything was plugged in right and all the way plugged and it was. so yea, thats all i know, the speakers now just kick in every once and awhile. i think they kick in when theres high treble in music. the speakers dont work no matter what media im lookin/listenin to, DVD's, Mp3's, whatever. yea. so thanks for everything, im excited to be a member here!!! Thanks for the help guys and girls!!!

sounds like a cable to me. If your onboard audio device displays the same symptoms as your PCI sound card(which they more than likely use different drivers) the only common piece they share would be your cables. I bet if you plugged in headphones it would sound great. I would check first your signal cable from your sound card/jack on back of your PC.

Welcome to TechIMO,

did you try headphones?

The way most of these speaker sets work these days is your audio out from your card will take the signal from your card to your Sub(or a left or right channel but, usually the Sub) and then from there the signal from your sound card is split into the the appropriate channels. You said the speaker worked great before you moved your machine. Now your onboard and PCI audio are crap. I suppose it's possible your hardware crapped out on you but, I would keep investigating. Do a google search on your model and see what comes up in the FAQ pages. Try some headphones

yea, when i use headfones (connected thru the speaker system) they work, WITH surround sound, sorta, like u can tell where noise is coming from in a game or movie. but once i unplug the speakers, it dont work. so the cords work and all, because the heafones only work thru the subwoofer. so. i dont know whats wrong still.
