Kids Importing OE messages in Win2K

Is it a reasonable question to ask if someone can tell me the exact path to my Outlook Express mail folders? My home desktop is on a network, so I believe the "Documents and Settings" directory needs to be included, but that's all I know.

I managed to destroy my Win2000Pro install when I plugged in a PCI-SCSI card, got "Stack Errors" and then a memory dump, then death, at the W2K startup screen, so I swapped to an HDD with a fresh W2K install and started rebuilding my programs. I'm trying to use the "Import messages" option in OE's Files menu, but the path shown is on the current C: drive, not the crashed drive that's now labelled G:. That drive is set to slave on the primary IDE, I can still access other data on it, and the new drive is now the master, labelled C:.

BTW, I have all the latest security patches from MS's website installed, the new drive is NTFS, but the crashed drive is FAT32, if that matters. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the quick response. I should mention that I couldn't start up OE on the bad drive. I'd get the message with words to the effect that "Outlook Express could not be started because msoe.dll could not be loaded. Also, I didn't create any backup folders, and after reading through that link, the impression I got was that the process needed to see that folder. I'll read it again. I'm going to try to pull the old address book by using the method that tells me to start from the "accounts" file menu, which will help because I don't have that file either.

Nothing I've tried so far works, and that link only helps when there are backup files, but thanks anyway.

I really need to find that path. Does anybody else have any ideas?

HI There,

To Find the Current Path of your Outlook Express files.

Tools>Options
Select the Maintaince Tab
Then click the Store Folder

this will show you your current location path.

From the path you have seen from there.

navagiate along the same way as the path except replce C with G and you should be able to see the same similar file names on your G Drive related to outlook express. Now its just a matter of coping everything in that location from G to C and you should be all set to go.

Make sure you back up the contents of the folder from path of store folder in case something goes awry. And also keep a back up of the ones in G.

Thanks Neo. One of the problems I may be having is that I don't have the "show hidden files" option checked under tools=> folder options=> View tab on windows explorer. I did essentially what you suggest, but for whatever reason, the path to OE isn't the same between the two drives. I'm going to try again when I get home tonight, and hopefully the path: G:\Documents & Settings\username\Application data\Microsoft\Outlook Express, or something very similar will show.

Also, just as an FYI in case people don't know, and correct me if I'm wrong, an OE e-mail message usually has a .eml extension.
