Kids Motherboard Choices for P4

I'm getting close to upgrade time. I've decided on the Pentium 4 2.4ghz, 800FSB. Newegg currently has the retail version for $172. The mob I was looking at, is the ASUS P4S00 with SIS648FX chipset. Reviews were 5 stars. Newegg price, $86.99.

This is a major upgrade from my Pentium III 800eb, which I've had nearly 3 years. I want to pull ahead, without losing a leg, so this fits around my price range. I'm open to suggestions for any other motherboards that would enhance this cpu. I would like to keep the price around $100. Thanking everyone in advance

Robert

After some extensive researching, I've decided to go with ABIT's IS7E board with the Intel 865PE chipset. Newegg price: $96.00

I'm going with DDR PC3200 from Crucial. If I understand correctly, I should buy 2 sticks of 256, rather than 1 stick of 512. Any comments? Thanks

Robert

Dude, for like 10 more dollars, you get the IS7, which is much better. It has the new northbridge cooler, gigabit lan, sata, raid, firewire, all the good stuff. I have an IS7, and it is amazing.

You're ABSOLUTELY right! Should have scrolled down a little further. The raid, and firewire is definitely worth more than $10. Thanks SocceRich20 for the tip. I hope to be placing my order in a couple of weeks. I'm even thinking about the Corsair Extreme Speed RAM now.

Cool, I have 1GB of RAM in there, my IS7 is great. The only thing I wish it had is more conveniant firewire connectors on teh mobo, but you can use the one that comes standard on the back of teh mobo, plus it comes with this cool thing that lets you add 2 usb, and 2 firewire into a pci slot. Unless you have a huge video card, the firewire connectors wont be a problem.

U want a sweeet board? Get the ASUS P4P800 Deluxe. I bought that recently and it works great. IMO it's one of the best boards for the I865PE chipset. I use it with a 2.8GHZ HT processor.
