Kids ATI control panel having error

I have a computer with athalon 1800xp asus mother board, win200pro, 256k ddram, rage128pro sound card and all updates installed from windows. Since I built the system about six months ago it has been poping up with an error.

When you boot up the computer it says that the "ati control panel failed to initalize, because no ati driver is installed or ati driver is not working properly"

This is not affecting the computers performance and the ati soundcard is working.

any suggestions for getting rid of the blasted message everytime i boot up?

thanks

Do you have an ATI video card? ATI doesn't make sound cards.

Even so, you can download the latest ATI drivers for your video card from http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html

Do you use windows update? Use it from the start menu to scan for updates; there may be drivers available through Microsoft that could help with the situation.

edit: I'm assuming you have installed the driver updates through Windows update

You can use Belarc Advisor to gather more information about your PC.

When the ati pannel error pops up it, then goes to the windows update screen which goes to a blank screen (it doesn't boot up because the internet is not on line until you manually dial it up.)

I have scanned windows updates and there are no updates available. everything is current. do you know if there is a way to remove the ati pannel? will that effect anything?

You should be able to remove the driver from the Add/Remove program section of the control panel. And follow the link I provided above, although you won't be installing a Catalyst driver, it will still be in that menu. It should have all the drivers you need for proper operation.
