AGP Cards Backward compatable?

If my motherboard only supports up to AGP 4X, could I install an AGP 8X card ?

Thanks!

Usually the video cards are backwards compatible, unless the voltage changed. That's usually a problem with older AGP 1x/2x cards and motherboards, though.
