i just passed mine here back in june...believe it was june 6th...my suggestion is this: dont worry bout the hardware section, study software and OS's...there are a lot of questions on the OS technology part of it concerning DOS, Win9x(every version for the 9x series, 95, 98, etc...) and winNT 4.0...if you do take it before november, these are the most you hafta worry about...after novemver when they update the tests, you may want to study winME, win2K pro, and winXP(all verions of XP and 2K will prolly b on there)
stuff to study for the OS Tech exam(2nd part of the A+) includes but is not limited to:
OS security, setup and install, troubleshooting, etc...
its not too hard, outta 1300 on the harware section i got a 996, and the OS tech section i didnt study and i got a 695 outta 1300(690 is passing on the OS part, 700 is passing on the hardware)
i took it through my high skool, and they ran it from prometric, so your mom's work should have it....check
HERE for really good info on the A+ exam...one other thing i would suggest to you is to talk to your guidance counselor or someone like that and see if you can take it through your skool...most skools can get you a discounted price if you take it there...my skool ran prometric, and if i wouldnt have taken the A+ through skool, i would have payed over 200 bux for both tests combined...i paid just over half of that by taking it through my skool...think it was like 120 for me...each test runs close to 100 a piece, and there are 2 tests...and if ya fail em, there is no discount next time, you hafta pay full price again...also, depending on your background with computers, i would wait til you have more experience before taking it...it took me 4 years to get mine(i worked on computers since i was 13, took the test when i was 17) and in those 4 years i learned a lot...we started a program at skool, a microsoft certified IT academy program, and that taught me jack...it was those 4 years that i worked on computers uncertified that got me the A+...hope this helps ya a bit more...
Brian
BTW, good luck if you decide to take it, hope ya nail it the first time
