After reading a few sites, I've found out that my board has sensors for the diode temperature of my CPU and the socket temperature. I'm just asking which I should go by.

Both are fine, you should really keep track of both.
The Diode temperature is going to jump around a lot, and the socket temperature is a little more stable as it's just a sensor underneath the CPU, not a measurement of the CPU's real temperature.

So in a sense, the diode temp is the temp of my core? This is more important to me than the socket.
Thanks |

never knew that?
does anyone know if the K7S5A board has diode temp readings?
I know it has a senor that MBM detects

"So in a sense, the diode temp is the temp of my core? This is more important to me than the socket."
Yes. The diode sensor IS in the die. So yep its a direct reading of the internal cpu die temp. THis is why its used for the C.O.P. feature in asus. Shuts off at 65c from the internal diode not the zif as that one isnt as accurate. Diode fluctuates alot as the cpu is under laod then not etc. SO folks panic-thinking its bad. SO the ziff is more of a rounded off temp being away from cpu its slowly heats up-then goes lower. Making folks have peace of mind BUT its not any diff really. A rose is still a rose by any other name-yes. For real temps-yep go by the diode.

| No, it doesn't, but there is a mod so you can wire up the second (unused) sensor on the it87 chip to use the diode temp. http://www.ocworkbench.com/2002/ecs/...IODE%20MOD.htm
Don't try it if you're unsure about your soldering skills or don't want to risk your board.

NP.
I've got the dip switches to wire up for my multiplier and voltage adjustment, I just have to get a better soldering iron as my current one is like 4mm wide.
