Smell Heat?

Is it normal to smell 'heat' over your case? I'm not talking about a burning smell, just a heated air smell. According to PC Probe my CPU's temp is 45C (LOAD temp is 51C) and my motherboard's temp is 24-25C.

I never have. I could only feel heat around an inch away from the HSF.

When I finish shift and step into my home office, some times I can smell a soldery (for want of a better word) smell like something electrical has burnt like wire or plastic or something. It does get damn hot in here at times - it was getting upto 45+ c ambient until I fitted an air con unit.

Is that what you are talking about?

I don't think it is much to worry about as I think it is just the smell of electrical components getting hot. As chips will work upto about 70 c (i think), your temps are nothing to worry about.

It's an electrical smell. Anyone who has worked in a service department is familiar with that smell. Most notable with new products during their initial burn-in. Not to be confused with actual burning. If you don't see smoke and flames, you're okay. You can smell the same thing after a thunderstorm.
