using PC3200 w/ 2600+ Barton333mhz

Can I use PC3200 (400MHz) RAM with a AMD Athlon XP 2600+ 333MHz FSB

or do I have to get 333MHz RAM(PC2700)

Yes you can use pc3200 , but it will only run at 333mhz unless you overclock the 2600 .


BTW , that 2600 is a thoroughbred core , 2500 , 3000 , 3200 , and some 2800s are barton cores.

ahhh, you are right. the 2600 isnt a barton
I take it I should go for the barton core then. I guess Ill go with the 2500+ barton core and just get 333mhz RAM then

that probably is the best way to go for the most part right?
I dont have plans to overclock.

Yep , I would just go for the 2500 Barton and some good 333mhz ram. And the 2500 is a heck of a deal too , you'll be more than happy with it. And if later down the road you decide to overclock , just pop in some pc3200 ram and the 2500 overclocks very well. Mines running as a 3200 + with no probs at all.
