Help sound quits while playing any game

Here's my system gigabyte mb GA-7VRX REV.1.1
2100 xp athlon
256 geil 2700 DDR
40GB wd 7200rpm HD
geforce 4 xfx 440 video card

My audio is fine on everything i do on my pc except when I start playing games they play fine for a few mins then all of a sudden the sound stops I can turn off the game and the audio is ok restart the game the audio is ok for a few more mins. This happens on several games all newer released games.
I have updated via drivers , updated direct x , updated audio drivers , updated video drivers checked everything I can think of in the bios.
Please help i am also running windows xp pro.
