Gigabyte 81PE1000
Does anyone know anything about this board I recently bought this for a system build and was wondering if it was any good, I havent heard or seen anything about this particular mobo . I have a stick of kingston value ram 333/2700 512 ddr, and I am waiting for an identical stick from ebay the board supports dual channel ram and I wanted to know if there is any reason I shouldn't be able to get this to work?
mainboard specs up to 800 mhz fsb
up to 400 mhz ddr support dual channel ram
onboard realtek ac97
intel 865PE Hyper threading
Agp 8x
serial ata
and I have P4 2.4 533 fsb
512 333/2700 kingston value ram
w/d 120 gig
7500 Ati radeo 32 mb ddr dual display
Any Ideas?
Thanks in advance

well for those interested the dual channel works fine with kingston value ram although, Kingston and most of the tech sites out threre said it wouldn't stuck it in and no problem at all

I've got one dude. It spoke to me tonite for the first time! It told me my video card wasn't set up right with one long beep and two short ones, so I installed the proper jumpers on the card, then started the beast back up again. It thanked me with one beep, and on it went. I'm a happy boy!!!
I've had this mobo for over a month now, been DYING to start it up, but I'm building this rig slowly (read... trying to stay on top of the credit card balance). So far I've got the 2.4gig processor installed (obviously), 1 stick of 512mb Corsair XMS memory, WD 80gig unformatted HDD, and a *borrowed from work* Diamond Viper AGP 4x video card. All in an Antec Solutions series case with a 350 watt p/s. My Lite-on CDRW/DVD-ROM drive is on it's way, and I'll have the W2K load on the disk drive by the weekend.
I'm a newbie to building my own system, and as my post count shows, a n00b to this site. If ya don't see me posting a LOT of questions here, you'll know things are going pretty well. I think you'll be pleased with this board as time goes by.

yeah I remember about a month back when I first was able to put it in my antec sonata case it spoke to me alot that night so much so in fact that she reminded me of my girfriend...beep, beep beeeeeeeeeeep beep beep. it got pretty annoying until i FIGURED OUT IT WAS THE AGP CARD!... I tried installing xp...no no. then 98.. no no. then ME (Don't know why I bothered with this one)no no, then finally win 2k Bingo. so I thinks its all good to upgrade to xp... no no. thing crashes again The Only way to solve my Issue was to dual boot clean xp install and before it ran for first time jam it into safe mode and manually install Radeon video drivers and then finally the Miracle of all miracles it finally shut up! now it beeps me hello every couple of days when I reboot and I'm happy with that...Now if they only made drivers for women all would be well in the world!
Good luck with the build and keep me posted on mobo probs I'll make sure to post mine lol |

LOL!!! Women: Can't shoot 'em.........
Can't shoot 'em. That's why I'm going to continue to think of mine as "the beast".
Interesting that you had problems when going from W2K to XP, cause that's the route I'm planning to take. Only difference, I'll be sticking with this Viper card for the next month or so until I decide which Radeon card to install, so I'm SURE ATI'll have some more driver issues straightened out by then.

Before this slips off the first page...
Redceas, we seem to be in the minority with our exceptional choice of MB's, that's why I'm posting this question here. First, I want to say that I've had absolutely NO problems so far, except on two occasions when I got a hard reset after starting up a CD and a DVD in my Lite-on drive.
Here's my question: In the BIOS, under Frequency and Voltage control, the factory had, I think it's called, "CPU Host Controller Frequency" set to 133mhz. With my 2.4Cghz processor, shouldn't it be set to 200mhz to match the FSB? That's were I've got it set, but I'm not real clear on how the processor's multiplier interprets this number. The CPU has yet to go higher than 38 degrees, so if I'm actually OC'ing the CPU, so be it, but I'm wondering if that could explain the two resets I've gotten.
I've got Winbench, and a couple other benchmark/info programs in a temp folder ready to be installed, and I think they'll give me some answers as well.

if by the p4 c you mean the 800 fsb then yes thats where you want it set . I know the board defaults to 133 and thats great for me since I have the p4 b 533/fsb but anyways I don't think that your restarts are due to this but i have had the hard reset happen on my other system with lg dvd rom and disc inside but I chalked that up to copy proection crap with dvd and sometimes cd's. Other than that the only weird thing that I have experienced with this board is ( 3 times so far) is when i shutdown completeley with my speakers still on i get this whirring sound kind of like a needle on a record being dragged across. now this is using on board sound, and i think i read somewhere that sometimes this is a result of the northbridge overheating a little while using on board sound I imagine if i go get that soundcard i was looking at this problem would be solved. Let me know if you are using onboard sounds as well if not how does your sound card work. I had previously tried a sounblaster live 5.1 but that chopped during nhl 2003 and had to go. the next step is the extigy but @ 250$ onboard sound is fine for now. lol anyways keep me posted

I'm using onboard sound right now. The only time I heard anything out of the ordinary was some static when I ran the jack sensing utility in Sound Manager. But since that was a one-time deal, I didn't worry about it. I think I remember reading somewhere about other people not liking their Soundblaster Live cards either, so like you, for now, I'll stick with what's in the box.
I ran Winbench last night. It did detect the processor as 2.4ghz, and it indicated two of them, so I know Hyper-threading is alive and well, FWIW. Anyway, thanks for your points-of-view.

that jack sensing thing bothers me a little now that you mention it it has happened about a dozen times since installation but i thought it was normal, you know just testing itself, but now that you mention that your system only did it once it concerns me a little, cuz mine does it for no apparent reasonj. its not like im pulling the jacks out before it does it, looks like something I'll have to look in to. hopefully the gigabyte site will have morre faqs soon about this mobo.

WOW!!! It lives!!!
Keep in mind, I only ran the sensing utility once since the speakers have been plugged in ever since, but I'll run it again tonite when I get home. One thing I've learned over the years with Windows, don't mess with success, ya know?
BTW, I had a problem creating a disk image with that utility, I forget what its called. Anyway, it seemed to write it, and I was able to save it, but when I ran a restore, nothing happened. I'll have better details when I get in front of it tonite.
Why do I get the feeling we're the only two members with this MB???
