A+ - Processors and Sockets

How much do I really need to know about the older processors and sockets? I'm talking about pre-Pentium.

A lot of the older pre pentium stuff was either socket socket 1, 2, or 3.

socket1- 169 pins,5V, SX,SX2, DX, DX2, DX4 overdrive
socket 2- 238 pins, 5V, same as above, with 486 pentium overdrive.
socket 3 - 237 pin, 5V/3.3V same as socket 2
all are PGA, pin grid array.
all are dinosaurs too...
ripped right from the pages of my "upgrading and repairing PCs" book.
cept the last part...

I would like to think you wouldn't get a lot of questions on the ancient stuff like that, but it never hurts to be ready for anything they chunk at ya.

When I took A+ earlier this year, there weren't any questions about pre-Pentium hardware that I recall on the Hardware exam. There was some DOS on the OS exam though...

I think the oldest they go is Socket7, I didn't get any question about CPUs before this socket, nor did the other people I know who passed it.

Here's a link to some nifty manuals. Nothing this in-depth on the A+, but worth a look.
