Spam and popups have taken over my pc

hey guys, i am kinda upset with my computer...lol

the main problem is that now, even when i am not browsing the net, i get all these popups all the time, and they are all the same.

What should i do about it, i mean, i am browsing the internet and this popup comes up and i am switched to it without me actually clicking on it.

What should i do, is there a foler under winnt where these executable files run themselves off of? Has anyone had this problem before or not?

Please let me know, as i am freaking out about this already.

Thanks.

Run Spybot on your box. This should help. Get Spybot here http://www.safer-networking.org/.

Try a couple of things to get rid of them. One is called Adaware, another is called Spybot.

If neither of those tools fix the problem, come back and give us more information.

Cheers
Mick

Sounds like your browser has been hijacked.

Where are you being taken BTW? That should give us an idea of how to fix it.

you need to run
Spybot
Adaware
and I would add ...
Pop-up Stopper
I would also run updated Antivirus just to be sure.

( I see a pattern here )

If you add pop-up stopper, get the paid version, not the free. the free version has adds to upgrade. the money is wroth it for constant upgades to keep the ads aways. You were probably taken over by Xupiter....Spybot gets that off your systerm. I hate Xupiter!

you guys have been a really good help. No more popups after spybot took care of them, for now, until something else shows up. Thanks for the recommendations.

Oh, by the way, it takes me to some stop popups ad and some buying website, which i can no longer see thanks to your recommendations.

Thanks.

Later.

I would go with Adaware, Spybot, and add Opera to the list!

Who needs Popup Stopper when ya' have Opera!!

New here, is your firewall updated, and ports closed?
