WinXP and ports

Is there a way to assign com ports in WinXP? Ex. Make Com 1 be Com 3 etc.

Dunno if this helps, but if you got to a port under device manager, you can select port number from a list (advanced tab under port settings). Lots of numbers to choose from!!

Cheers

What are you trying to assign the COM to?? It shuld be in the properties page of the hardware you are trying to do it with. Press WindowsKey+PauseBreak and goto the Hardware Tab, then Device Manager.

This is what I am trying to do:

bought a USB GPS device (Delorme), finaaly got it to work. But it loads a USB to serial driver, and assigns it to COM4... no problem there, except that I'm trying to get it to work with Microsoft Streets and Trips.... S-n-T will only talk through COM1

Might have a prob with that. WinXP won't let you allocate ports already allocated. So if com1 is already allocated, you'll need to see if it will change before you can allocate the USB port to it.

Dunno if it will work. Good luck.

Cheers
