GPU Chip Temps

Hello,

I have a Geforce 2 MX Graphics card with a small heatsink and fan on it. The temps at idle are around 50 degrees C and at full load (running the demo of 3DMark 2001 SE on loop) it gets up to 60 degrees C. Is this somthing to worry about?

ALSO...

Should / why does prime 95 heat up my graphics card chip when it is run in torture mode.

Out of interest, on my Athlon XP2500+ with 512Mb of PC3200 RAM, with new drivers installed I got about a 30-40% increase in performance according to 3D mark 2001 FOR FREEEEEE!

If you are really worried about the heat issue, you can always buy PCI slot fans or even glue-on heatsink and fans for your card, but to agree with darthgary, if its not giving you a problem, dont worry. Dont fix it if it isnt broken!

It's a little warm for my tastes; I would probably put a better HSF on it, but if you can run all your games and/or 3DMark2K1 without any graphical anomalies or artifacts over long periods of time, you should be OK.

It is quite possibly software bundled with the video card as some manufacturers like Leadtek included hardware monitors to detect temperature, voltage, and speed of the chip; even for the GeForce 2 MX 400 series.

The software bundled with my Tyan Tachyon 9700pro gives me temps also. At stock speeds of gpu 325mhz nad mem 622mhz, my card runs around 55°C idle. I have seen it as high as 65°C playing games right after I shut down the game. I am not running into any stability problems what so ever with those temps. The newest GPU's produce A LOT of heat. I am going to be adding a water block to my GPU this week sometime. It will be interesting to see what kind of temp drops I will see.

The proggy I use is speed fan. It gives all the temps accuratly (same as the BIOS) and the fan speeds (not correct) It also gives HDD temps if possible and can read the SMART info from compatible hard disks.

Get it from http://tucows.blueyonder.co.uk/preview/226226.html
