Outdoors reg678.dll specified module could not be found

Ok, got another problem...the system is athalon 1800 on asus motherboard. win 2000 pro. 256mb ddram. all updates and virus free. But a a virus may have caused this problem. When the computer boots, it comes up with the error "reg678.dll specified module could not be found" you click ok and then the system runs fine. But i would like to figure out where the error is being generated and why. i know .dll is a communiations file. is "reg" some sort of regulation? and to what is it regulating, so i may fix it?

thanks!

DLL stands for dynamic link library and serves as a table for the application. That file is specific to your application that you installed. That file was not found on www.dll-files.com so it's not a common file. You would have to find out what application that file belong to and reinstall that application. Good luck.

thanks for the .dll website. I had been looking for something like that.

Does anyone think that the "reg678.dll" could have been something left from a virus. the computer which has this error message has had several hacks and trojans despite norton anti-virus. If I were to delete the file, would that make the program it belongs to not work, and then I would know that program it went to and I could reintall the program?

My google search revealed that it's the work of a virus.

EDIT: I can't attach a virus removal tool so here's the site:

www.bitdedender.com

Use the keyword "reg678.dll" in the search on their site. Good luck.

what the heck did you type into google to find that answer? i have been looking for days. I will give that a shot. thanks. it is my dad's computer i built, but i was wondering if the reg error was left over from a virus. i installed norton and it is updated regularly, but i think he got a trojan on there which installed a ton of other virus. thanks, i'll try that websit tonight

ahhhh....found the website you were talking about. "defender", not "dedender"

This forum has been extremely helpful It has taken me firewalls, three virus websites, and two days, but i think this new website can clear up the rest of the issues.

thanks
