compaq presario 4540

I have an older Compaq and am trying to locate the restore disk for a presario 4540. This PC will not run a normal intsall of 98, ME or any thing else. Any idea where to locate a restore disk that I can dowload or copy

You will have to order from HP/Compaq. Other Recovery CD's will not work, specific to each. 1-800-compaq ... call them and they will charge you for the set of disks and send them to you if they still carry them.

I am not looking for operating system just the bios that will allow me to reload an operating system. They make the restore disks for all the 2540's the same except for the nic card which I have changer anyway. If you know of a way to get the restore downloades I would be greatfull. Having to buy a new disk is a last option because the PC is an old one and not worth spending much money on.

Not run a normal install? Why not, whats it do.

That would be preferable to restore anyway. Wont get quite all the stuff as with a restore but but wont get the pre junked registry either.

not sure why, it just wont complete the install and if it does it wont work properly. I understand I wont get all the functions but I hopefully will gwt the bios that i need to load an operating system

I've done a clean install of 98 on a 4540 and it worked just fine. I'm sorry I don't have anything to provide you with at the moment though. All I can tell you is that the hard drive was fully formatted first. Don't know if we did a BIOS update, this was three years ago.

i think all you need to do is flash the bios u should be able to get that from the compaq site if you flash then format and reinstall I don't see a problem
