Keep My 4800 or get a 5200

I have a Gainward GeForce 4 Ti 4800SE. I'm eyeing a Gainward FX 5200 possibly. Would this be a good idea, other than the DX9 features, which will be faster? I'm having a hard time finding benchmarks of these 2 against each other. Thnx in advance...

The GeForce FX5200 compares to a GeForce4 MX420-440 only with DX9 compatibility.

It will be much much slower than your TI4800. My Ti4200 is faster than an FX5200.

So no, I don't think it will be a good idea. When games such as Quake 3 and Half-Life 2 come out, although they are optimised for DX9, they will still play much better on your TI4800.

Well that sucks....I work in a computer store and we just got these in....I've been warning everyone off the Mx 400s and 420s. Oh well we can probably sell them tho. Thanx.

Here's a link to a comparison of video cards including the FX 5200 Ultra and a Ti4800. I think you'll find yourself wanting to keep that Ti4800: http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/...0-5200-03.html

Hi,
The 5200s are not as good as the 4800s and are priced as such (or should be ...). I class them as a budget gaming card and think of them as the new mx440. For example, you can pick up a 5200 in Australia for as little as AU$140, whereas the 4800s start at around AU$250.
Regards,
Elad.

And, as you point out, this benchmark is for the 5200 Ultra, which is signaificantly quicker than the 5200. At the price the Ultras are going for at the moment (they start at AU$300) , I wouldn't suggest them to anyone.

Elad.

Its just a poor replacement of the GF4MX series but uses DX 9 and has some newer pixel shaders.
