Food SATA & IDE Drives vs PowerQuest

Problem
I cannot make a backup image(in windows) of my C Drive(SATA). The Image file is on my D Drive(SATA)-----spilt partition------ using PartitionMagic 8.0, My G Drive IDE 0 is set as Slave runing if DVD Rom Master
Everything is fine in powerquets even when it tells you to reboot the system and the usual "image file will be over written"etc
so i reboot but to my suprise Windows boots back up not PowerQuest . Now then if i take out my G Drive Which is in a removable caddy normal IDE cable set as slave, PowerQuest fuctions fine with no broblems, The only way to make a backup image with the G Drive in is to boot from Floppy,

Windows XP pro SP1
Athlon 2500xp+
Gigabyte mother board GA-7N00 PRO
Seagate 120g SATA HD
Western Digital 20g IDE HD
Liteon CDRW/Pioneer AO5
GeForce FX5200
Any one have any ideas to this or have the same problem
is there something wrong with my config
PS the only reason my G Drive is Slave because it it used to transfer to other pc`s friends familly etc

I never install PM to a hard drive;I just make the rescue floppies(or CD) as I have found it to be the best environment for making backup images. If it works from the floppies Id keep doing it that way.
Just my 2 pennies
