MechWarrior 5: Never
After they killed MW4 (by making it), sold 4 rehashed expansions and even created a "new game" based off the same archaic engine I fear the worst for the Mechwarrior Series after they bludgeoned it to death with the marketing stick.
I loved Mech2 and Mech3 but they turned Mech4 into a cartoon that lost alot of it's BT playerbase.
Mechwarrior 5 isn't even remotely in development yet which means that if it does go into development within the next year we wont see another MechWarrior game for at minimum another 3 years, and thats if they rush it.
What I hope is that if they do make another MW game it will come in 2 types, MMO and NON-MMO so both universes can expand. The old Mech MMO that failed was a major failure for the series. That would have rocked. If they do manage to create another mechwarrior game in MMO form to NOT kill it they would have to rubric the game off the BT universe. That would suck in the old playerbase and they could also have a regular multiplayer variation with better graphics to keep the new, diluted crowd happy. This would enlarge the playerbase and bring new life into the series again.
I won't expect another mech game for at least another 5 years.
Mech4 was the downfall of Mechwar.

I liked MW4 Mercenaries...but to me everything since MW2 Mercenaries was bad.
They made a joke out of MechAssault for Xbox too.
I'm trying to get a 486 system working so I can play the original MechWarrior again

Nobody ever put a useable BattleMaster into the game after the first MW (though the last mission of one of the clans for MW2 I believe it was you fight one)

I personally liked mech 4, I thought that mech 3 on the other hand was trash esp with the targeting computer crap.

I personally loved Mech3.
Played it for 4 years almost every day.
Great game.
Too bad it was ruled by boats. My preffered boat was a 16ssrm4 Thor w/ 5AMS, ECM, and MASC. Hit 104kph, was a lethal killing machine on an Unlimited Ammo Ice map. =D
Off Ice w/ ammo I still preffered missiles but in my Supernova w/ 4ams, 15dhs, 12ssrm4 and 1200 rounds of ammo..
Er....PPC and Gauss were my other fav weapons.

My dad still plays it every day. I never liked it much though - I don't like the games where I'm stuck to one set of missions and can't deviate from that path.
For Mech3 I always just packed a Nova with medium/large lasers and tons of double heat sinks ... then used group fire
One shot would usually take out an opponents leg

Mech2 was fun and a good game for the time it was released. Mech3 was ok, but not the best, but Mech3 Mercs was awsome, my favorite game out of the series.
Mech4 was too much like mech3 mercs, but imporved graphics a bit, and added more mechs, other then that it wasn't very special, and therefore does not really stand out. Mech4 Black Knight was were my MechWarrior days stoped, and I only played the first mission. At that point my interest in the game was gone, and Mech 4 Mercs, for the one mission I played, was once again nothing new.
So I stoped with the games, and concentrated more on the BattleTech novels, which rock.
One thing that pissed me off was the killing of the regular time line and accelerating the whole series 100 or so years into the future with Dark Age. Do not get me wrong, I think that so far Dark Age is doing very well, except one book which I have yet to read but was given horrible reviews, but I just do not like to have to peace what happened between the last book of the original Battletech books, and the new time line through detective work and reading of all the books.
But you have to give BattleTech books some credit, out of the 100 or so novels out there, only 2 recieved really bad reviews.

Ooo, ooo, I get to dissent!
I liked MW4 a lot. The play is much better, the graphics are much better, the realizm is much better. The static story-line sucks. That's why you play online vs other people though.
As for MechAssault on X-Box, it's based off of the original Mechwarrior game for Sega, which was based off the Desert Strike helicopter game for Sega. It's not supposed to be true Battletech. I think they did an excellent job making it 3D and keeping to the original premise. Nevermind that I beat it in about 14 hours.
How many of you have played the Battletech board game, or MechWarrior the RPG?
If anyone wants to hook up and do some online MW4, PM me. | |

By the way, when do I get to borrow the Dark Age books from ya?
