Kids Transmeta Crusoe and Virtual Machines

Looking for input from users of laptops that have a Transmeta Cruesoe processor - TM5800 - 800mhz.

I have a Libretto L5W with the above mentioned processor. Currently, it's running Windows XP Pro. Eventually, I'd like to run Linux exclusively but don't have much Linux experience. As a solution, I borrowed a copy of Connectix VirtualPC from work and tried to install. We I ran it, I received a message that my computer has to be a Pentium II or higher. No big deal, I own VMWare Workstation 4 and decided to go with that. I was able to set everything up, but when I opened my Linux machine; I got a blank screen and it appeared that the system locked up.

Granted, I have no practical use for this other than I'm experimenting, so I realize that there may not be too many people who have run into a similar situation. If anyone has had this experience, could you offer any insight into your experiences? I have a feeling I'm just going to have to do a full installation on my Libretto and just have a 'baptism by fire'. Thanks for the insight. -Chris

ive got the same problem.

my laptop is the Fujitsu Lifebook P2110B, which has the 866 crusoe, the next model up.

virtual pc refuses to run, not a pII or higher.
and vmware makes the system reboot when a virtual pc starts up.

im running xp pro on it. i could dual boot but rather not, id lose hdd space having to dedicate space to another OS when i can share it all when using a virtual. ive got 512mb ram so memory isnt an issue either. i used to run virtual pc on my k6-2 450 system so speed in the virtual pc isnt a major concern of him. since MS now owns connectix, perhaphs future versions of virtualpc will allow crusoe cpus to run it.

anyone with suggestions, would be appreciated.
