looking for the best noob progs out there for linux

what do you think the best noob progs are for linux? just generally speaking

I was looking for stuff like multi-client chat progs and um stuff like cdburner progs. junk like that

Gaim has the ability to go AIM, MSN, ICQ all in one as well as many other protocols including IRC.

For a CD burner check out k3b. It is by far the best, most intuitive burning program out there for linux IMO.

but does gaim have yahoo IM? and what about psi is that any good?

Yes it is completely compatible with Yahoo.

I am not familiar with PSI though.

it is a jabber chat client. Just googled it, didnt know if it was popular or good for noobs.

what about distros? redhat? is slackware a good distro for noobs?

I would not go with slackware if I were a noob. I think the best distro to start out with would be either Mandrake or Redhat. Both are relatively easy to install and use.

If you want to just try linux out without and committment I would reccomend looking at Knoppix. This is a CD based distro of Linux that runs completely from the CD. You can use this without modifying your HD at all
