48X CD's burn @ 52X

So I get my new burner today, and I put in a CD. Burn it @ the 48X rated speed, no problems. Then I leave, come back, burn another one, but I forgot to change the speed. I burned 3 CD's at 52X with no problems. Is this dangerous? I like the idea of saving another 4.2 seconds per CD.

Samsung DVD/CD-RW
Staples brand (Imation) CD-R's

Thanks!

I've burned many 16xCDs at 48x.

I don't know how this affects the CD in the long run though.

it depends. obviously running a crc comparision would verify if the files on cd match the original.

a more telling test would be to run a c1/c2 analyzer on the cd afterwards...

well there are a couple different factors here also... I dont think you are burning at anywhere near 48x speeds anyway... buffer-underun protection throttles it down to acceptable speeds in first place and you never sustain those speeds over the length of the CDR anyway.

Yes, JPMiller is right. The 52X may be achieved for an instant at the outer edges but never throughout the burning process. I'd say if you get a 40X average with a 52X burner its excellent.

Try timing a 700 MB burn and work backwards to see what the average time works out. I think 2X is like 1.8MB/sec but I may be wrong.
