WinXP SP1: Worth it?
I've heard a lot of negative comments about SP1 in XP. I use XP Pro, and have used SP1 in previous installs, but haven't run any benchmarks yet. Currently, no Service Pack is installed, and I'm waiting for SP2. Do you think that service pack 1 is a good fix, or not?

It's mostly security fixes (the same ones you get on Windows Update) in Service Pakcs...only fools say they're not worth it.

Well I certainly won't be rushing to download SP2 when it comes out so if I were you I'd just go ahead and install SP1 unless you know of some reason why you shouldn't. No sense in waiting to beta test (ahem) SP2 a couple months down the road when you can use SP1 now. It is mainly security patches.

There is one known gotcha in SP1 with application load times. I will have to find a link. But, I dont really notice any problems running it.

Those are only applications that use HUGE heaps of memory if I remember correctly. Definiltely not ordinary desktop apps. It's not something I would concern myself with.

For security yes. I've had zero problems on every install. Laptops, desktops, no problems.
