...like On-Track's Data Advisor. Good little utility but too expensive and the last time I tried the shareware version 5.0 it didn't work for me. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Sorry, I didn't make it clear but I have too different older drives and I didn't want to mess around trying to find the proprietary utilities for two different out-dated drives. Anyway, I did d'l and try Data Advisor again. I ran it and they checked out OK. Thanks all for the help.
I've run several disk integrity tools including Seagate's "generic" diagnostic and the drive passes all tests and is reported good. But the problem is that I was getting "..ATAPI Incompatible" errors the first time around and it wasn't being detected by the BIOS. Now it's being found by the BIOS, I can fdisk and format in DOS with no problems but the drive won't show up in Windows set as master on the Secondary IDE channel. According to Seagate tech support I wasn't able to use the Sea Tool utility (the generic one worked) because it is a legacy drive. Will this drive not be properly recognized and useable on the newer IDE controllers?
Well, as far as I know, the newer faster IDE controllers are backward compatible with legacy devices. Now that your problem is partly solved, you'll just have to twiddle around till you get it.
